Foundation trenches were observed on a building site located about 25m east of the road. The topsoil was 30 to 50cm thick over natural gravel and sandy clay. A ditch or linear feature was revealed, running east to west, 1m wide and 50cm deep, as well as a feature containing iron slag. The builders' spoil heaps yielded fifteen medieval coarse sherds, one medieval glazed sherd, two post medieval glazed sherds, and much slag (samples kept).
