Summary

The present front of this building is the five-bay south façade, built from flint and of 19th century date. The north façade is of better construction and has stone edgings to the doors and windows, meaning it was likely the original façade. The house is therefore of probable 16th century date, which would tally with the date plaque of 1610 set in an associated barn made from brick, flint and clunch. However, further evaluation of this barn and the others belonging to the farm suggest the earliest parts date to 1690 with much of their exteriors being of 18th century date. During the 19th century one of the barns was converted into a stables.

Map

Present front, south facade, of five bays, two storeys; flint with 19th century brick windows, and traces of 17th century windows around them. Blocked doorway at west end. North facade is in much better flint, with stone edgings to doors and windows: therefore originally main facade. Both gable walls have blocked windows. Stone quoins - where is stone from? Probable 16th century. Garden wall of clunch to east.
Later barn along road, clunch and brick on flint base: could also be 16th century, but roof modern.
E. Rose (NAU) 5 October 1977.

Owner confirms that barn formerly had a date plaque 1610, and that north wall of house is supposed to be of same date; small detached barn has an interior wall (formerly exterior) also of stone.
Listing Grade II 1984 notes that house has east gable window in rusticated brick which it states has frame of around 1600 reset from elsewhere.
Rear wing has north wall refaced in English bond red brick dating to around 1800.
E. Rose (NAU) 28 October 1985.

July 2003. Building Survey
Evaluatory of barns suggests that the date is more likely to have been 1690: the 1610 and refers to south end alone, converted to stable in around 1900. North end of barn is 18th century, with reused limestone as stated above.
Other buildings 19th century.
See report (S1) for further details.
