1976.
Amorphous mass of many superimposed enclosures under modern field boundary.
Several buildings and yards of different periods?
Also old course of road (see Notes), bending south of modern line. Lane is soilmark between cropmarks of ditches; others are cropmarks.

Finds made by NARG fieldwalking in 1980 to 1981.

Prehistoric flints, medieval wares including Early medieval, post medieval sherds; building material.
Roman tile, pottery, Iron Age? Pottery or Bronze Age.
See list in file.
February 1990. [1].
Silver finger ring found by metal detecting.
Henig type 8 with angled shoulders. Flat rectangular bezel; scratched but not obviously inscribed. Angled tapering shoulders with 5 grooves some with transverse notching. Thick D-shaped hoop. 3rd-4th century.
A. Rogerson (NAU), March 1990.

Copper alloy tag with no obvious means of attachment (dress fitting), hook broken, spike projecting opposite circular field, with 4 repousse bosses. Probably 16th century, not Late Saxon.
Medieval gilt copper alloy buckle and plate with 5 rivets.
Cast animal foot (clawed, with openwork between claws) Roman? From vessel? To be photographed.
Rim Roman greyware jar. Rim probably of medieval unglazed jug.

See file.
W.F. Milligan (NCM), 22 May 1990
September 1991.
Lovely 11th century late Saxon copper alloy strap-union, with Romanesque affinities. Superb relief cat-like animal head in centre and openwork tendrils below the head, with triangular looped opening at each end. Open end has moulded boss at each corner.
Identified by S.M. Margeson (NCM).
A. Rogerson (NLA), 12 November 1991
This is recorded as Sites 17 and 18 in (S1).
Fieldwalking has recovered a concentration of Roman material from site 17, and interprets the cropmark of a possible building as Roman. Site 18 is an isolated early medieval site that is associated with a cropmark that represents the former course of Transport Lane. The site expanded during the medieval period, but had been abandoned by the early post medieval period.
See (S1) for more details.
S. Spooner (NLA) 19 May 2006.
October 2018. Metal-detecting. Iceni Tours. [5].
Roman coin hoard comprising 4 silver denarii found scattered over a small area. They are likely to represent part of a hoard or purse loss that went into the ground at some point at the very end of the 2nd-century or early in the 3rd.
Information from PAS import.
These coins were disclaimed as Treasure (Ref: 2021 T72) and returned to the finder.
P. Watkins (HES), 8 January 2024.
