Map

1977. Stray Find.
Found in gravel quarry at Pensthorpe:
2 Palaeolithic flint handaxes. See drawings (S1) and (S2).
Information from (S3). These discoveries were reported in (S4).
Described (presumably from the drawings) by Wymer on (S5) and in (S6) as a large well-made 'ficron' type handaxe and a pointed handaxe. At least one of the handaxes had been lost by the time that Wymer visited the site in 1990 (see below).
These handaxes are also noted in (S7) and (S8), although no additional information is given.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 2 July 2014.

1977-1990. Stray Find.
In 1990 the quarry was visited by J. J. Wymer. It was not possible to examine the previously discovered handaxes, one of which was reported to have been stolen. Wymer did however see another handaxe that had presumably been found after 1977. This was a elegant, flattish, pointed implement that was only slightly rolled.
Information from (S5).
P. Watkins (HES), 12 February 2016.
