Summary

The Rose and Crown Public House dates to the early 17th century, though it contains massive beams that may have been reused from an earlier building. This two storey building is of whitewashed carstone with brick dressings and a red pantiles roof. There is a later brick range to the west, a lean-to of whitewashed brick at the east end, and a two storey whitewashed brick 20th century extension at the west.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Public House. First half of 17th century. Whitewashed carstone with brick dressings, red pantiled roof. Two-storey, four-window range with additional later brick range to west, gabled wing to north. Earlier build has two ground and two first floor three-light casements, additional first floor two-light casements, all early 19th century wooden and framed windows. Central boarded door...Steeply pitched roof with one axial and one east end stack. Lean-to, whitewashed brick with pantiled roof at east end. Two storey whitewashed brick 20th-century extension at west. Gabled wing to earlier build at rear, carstone with brick dressings…"

Public House. Early 17th century, with massive beams that might be reused. However no evidence of medieval work despite local legends. Good 19th century fittings
