Summary

A variety of objects were recovered here between 1977 and 1979, including a Mesolithic flint bladelet; a Neolithic worked flint; Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery; Roman tile; Roman coins and a lead object that was possibly part of a 12th-century font.

Found on surface east of East Wood on ploughed ground by [3] (rest of field not searched):
1 ?Mesolithic flint bladelet.
1 Neolithic worked flint (light grey with heavy chalk patina).
Roman pottery including coarse wares (including some ?2nd century and 3rd/4th-century 'clubbed' rims), colour coated wares and 2 samian sherds.
Medieval pottery sherds including unglazed and glazed (including 2 green-glazed Grimston).
Post-medieval pottery sherds including Bellarmine face, 16th-century Transitional green glazed and 17th-century lead-glazed earthenware.

Early 1979. Metal-detecting.
Found by [4]:
Medieval lead fragment, decorated with lines and dots. Suggested as possibly part of a 12th century lead font by J. Cherry (British Museum). Seen at King's Lynn Museum, April 1979. Information from (S1).

Reportedly the former site of a medieval cross, although this seems unlikely. See (S1).
