Summary

This area, which forms the eastern portion of the site of the Roman vicus (NHER 49204) surrounding Burgh Castle (NHER 10471), has been the subject of an intensive programme of fieldwalking and metal-detecting which has yielded coins and metalwork dating from the Iron Age to the post medieval periods.

Amazing probable Early Saxon, like a pendant from a girdle hanger, but decoration is interlace (looking later in date) and edges pierced with circular holes, a few of which have tiny rivets; suspension loop; object is wedge shaped like half a pair of tweezers.

Early Saxon cylindrical bronze bead with tripartite division.
Medieval strap end with trefoil terminal.
Gilded medieval strap end buckle with trefoil terminal.
Medieval purse bar.
Medieval dagger guard with knob terminals and a projecting 'arm' in centre with semi circular terminal with engraved decoration.
