In West Tofts village in the 19th century a well top was made from fragments removed from the windows of St Mary's Church, Feltwell when under restoration. Local legend said it was the porch of Buckenham Tofts church, but this is a fallacy. No water ever appeared in the well. Nothing of this nature was seen in the NAU survey of the Battle Area. This was demolished 1913 and the windows put into a new church at Willingham, Lincolnshire.
E. Rose (NAU), 17 January 1983.
