Summary

A number of earthen mounds are located in the garden of the property here. Despite the fact that human remains were recovered from the top of one these mounds they are not likely to be burial mounds or barrows. They seem to be 20th century landscape features, with the bones coming from the nearby churchyard on to which the gardens encroach.

A. Lawson (NAU) reports mound is at TF 7060 4016. One large one about 18m diameter x 1.5m high, probably landscape or treeplanting; smaller mounds around, probably landscaping but just possible deserted medieval village.
E. Rose (NAU/NLA).

December 1982.
Gardener told E. Rose (NAU) that previous owners had excavated the above mound and found it to be composed of pure soil. He believed it to be part of the landscaping of the garden carried out in 1925. The bones are in fact found everywhere in the gardens and come from the churchyard which they cover! (see NHER 1344). The smaller mounds seem to be also landscaping and not part of a deserted medieval village, with the exception of the large church mound (NHER 1344).
E. Rose (NAU) 14 December 1982.
