Full Description
65 Damgate Street. Former Sun Inn.
December 1950. Listed, Grade II
17th century with shaped gable. Brick and flint with thatched and pantiled roof. Additions in 1795 including south gable.

'S H' in clamp irons on shaped gable which is to west - the east-to-west roof is thatched. Blocked small windows in upper north wall; single string course here and two on gable wall.

Excerpt of current Listing Description:
"House, formerly public house of some fame (The Sun Inn). North range 17th century, raised and with shaped gable added c. 1720...Brick with flint. Early north range thatched, remainder pantiled. North range of two storeys and attic. West gable to street in two bays. Late 19th-century panelled door to right with a three-light 18th-century transomed casement to its left. Platbands to each floor...Gabled roof with ridge stack at east end. East gable straight. Late 18th-century extension to south of two storeys in three window bays, the centre bay blind to each floor...Gabled roof with south parapet. Datestone in south gable head nearly indecipherable at time of Review, but 179... visible (owner declares 1792, previous list 1795). Internal gable-end stack. 19th-century two-storey wing extends east from north range...
INTERIOR. North range with chamfered bridging beam to ground floor and wide open fireplace in east wall. Winder staircase on east side of this. Roof replaced above astragal to stack, which has been raised."
