Summary

Cliff Hill is the site of a late 18th century gun battery. The battery was built on the site during the American War of Independence and then rebuilt during the Napoleonic Wars. It was dismantled in 1815 and the site is now built over. There were plans to build a fort on the site in 1587, but it is unlikely that it was ever constructed.
