Summary

A Palaeolithic flint handaxe was found here in 1978. Subsequent fieldwalking recovered pottery dating from the late prehistoric to the medieval period, and fragments of a medieval floor tile.

Found on field surface at [1] (Context 1):
1 Palalaeolithic cordate handaxe. In iron-stained flint, chalkly patina over iron staining in places. 115mm maximum length. 84mm maximum width. See drawing (S1).
Donated to the King's Lynn Museum (KILLM : 1978.112). Information from (S2).
This find was first reported in (S3) and is briefly described and sketched on (S4). It is also noted in (S5), (S6) and (S7), although no additional information is given.
A Palaeolithic flake was found several years later, relatively close to this location (NHER 17598). As noted in (S8), the location of these finds in the valley, close to the stream, suggests that they derive from gravel deposits.
