Full Description
1820. 'On Hempnall Green' 'Enormous remains' of the Roman road 'Stone Street' which Woodward (S1) claims led 'from Caistor to Blythburgh'.
Note that the supposed Roman road NHER 10199 if projected south would cross Hempnall Green.
However there may be a connection with The Walls (NHER 10172). Faden (S2) marks the east to west road here as Roman!
Note: the word 'enormous' has been added to the letter at a later date, but is still in Woodward's handwriting.
E. Rose (NAU).
