Full Description
May 1978. Visit.
This 19th century barn said by farmworkers at Rookery Farm to be site of old manor whence came the reused stone in the farm. If so, it must have originally come from the church site. Deep well also said to be here. Now surrounded by crop.
E. Rose (NAU), 25 May 1978.
(S1) marks a large building here. (S2) marks only the present barn and an outbuilding to south but calls field Old Hall Pasture. (S3) marks as Old Hall. This seems to show this was the site of Dunham Hall, noted for its stained glass, which was demolished in 1800. Soilmarks of building apparent on air photograph.
1990. Metal detecting.
Medieval to post medieval metalwork and coins.
Pottery medieval, post medieval and Middle Saxon?
See details in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 19 August 1991.
Pre 1992.
Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval sherds and terracotta found, (S4).
A. Rogerson (NLA), 5 May 1992.
