Map

Fine brick mansion around 1700, seven bays, two storeys.

June 1978.
Massive Classical pilastered central doorway (contemporary in style, but perhaps added later from its rather awkward fit - though perhaps more probably a poor job by a local builder with a ready-made doorway). One ground floor window blocked, and central upper window. All upper windows have either recessed aprons or have been partly blocked. Latter is more probable, to fit sash windows, but this means that originally upper windows must only have been divided from the lower by the moulded string course.
All suggests a local man's attempt to build a fashionable house.
E. Rose (NAU), 21 June 1978.

(S1) prefers explanation that upper windows have recessed aprons. Notes contemporary rear wing with ironwork on windows. Interior has fine staircase from first floor to attic only, with alternating twisted and plain turned banisters.
Lower section, ground to first floor, has 19th century staircase with original balusters reused.
One original fireplace. Beyond house, stables of 1741 and 19th century barn.
E. Rose (NAU), 12 August 1985.

October 1998.
Owner's daughter-in-law reported find of glazed Grimston bung hole of a `bung hole cistern'.
Identified by A. Rogerson (NLA).
Found in farmyard - precise location unknown. Notified whilst undertaking earthwork survey on NHER 33882.
B. Cushion (NLA), 13 October 1998.

(S2) of barns alone in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 17 February 2006.
