Summary

The site of lime kilns, marked on an old map. 1980 aerial photographs indicate the site has been destroyed and ploughed over, but there is some discussion as to whether this is the case or not.

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Location

Map sheet TF63NE
Civil Parish OLD HUNSTANTON, WEST NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

Old kilns marked on 6 inch Ordnance Survey map.
Limekilns says D. Jones (KLM).

1980.
Unit air photograph shows totally destroyed, pit ploughed over.
E. Rose (NAU), 19 July 1982.

However, possibly the same as the kiln given as 'Heacham' (it is right on the parish boundary) by source [1] who in January 1992 noted entrance and three quarters of the passage intact; beyond a break a wall of rough bricks has been built to seal off the rest. Pot filled, with overspill into chutes. Possibly the aerial photograph may be
misleading.
E. Rose (NLA), 8 March 1994.
