Full Description
In Corsican pine plantation between Drove Road and railway, behind Forestry Commission nursery.
Row of pits reported by Foreman at Hills and Holes Wood, Great Hockham, as 'ancient iron workings'.
But another forester claims they are craters left by a stick of bombs dropped by a crippled German plane in about 1942.
Information given to E. Rose (NAU), 3 August 1978.
4 July 1979.
Site visited by E. Rose (NAU).
No pits in area indicated by foreman unless very small and overgrown, which is unlikely. Most probably the pits in the area of site NHER 5988 were meant. These are natural and certainly not bomb craters.
November 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The pits described above are visible on aerial photographs (S1) and have been confirmed as natural.
E. Bales (NMP), 22 November 2010.
