Summary

A moat with traces of an associated western enclosure survives here. It appeared on the 1843 tithe map where it was named as a moat. These features are presumably medieval in date. The moat and enclosure still existed in 1996, though in a heavily overgrown state.

Apparently still extant, but even at this time of year densely overgrown by brushwood and virtually impenetrable. Moat 2-3m wide, 0.75-1m deep. Banks support scrub and mature trees. Western arm was cleaned out in 1983 to a depth of some 61cm (2ft).

Overgrown moat visible on aerial photographs (S1), centred on TL 9998 9232, but not mapped as all features visible are represented on the Ordnance survey map. Earthworks in the vicinity have been mapped and recorded as NHER 53402.
