Summary

A stone memorial to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. The stone is inscribed with the number of miles to Norwich, Great Yarmouth and other towns, as well as depictions of a railway locomotive and a camera.

Victoria Jubilee (1887) memorial and milestone. Four sided, Gothic canopies surmounted by stone block supporting lamppost. On two sides are inscribed distances (including Yarmouth 11, By New Road 8). Other carvings include on north a railway engine.

Memorial to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee (1837 to 1887). Limestone, square on plan. Each face has a carved panel above the plinth with a gabled drip mould on ball-flower stops. The east face inscribed with distance to Norwich and Yarmouth, the west face with a railway locomotive, the south face with a camera on a tripod and the distance to Upton, South Walsham and Yarmouth (New Road). The north side inscription now eroded and not decipherable. The stone base surmounted by a cast iron lamp standard.

1994.
A stone monument, about 6 feet high and topped by an iron lamp standard. Each of the four sides of the base has a carving in relief, although only 3 can be made out: A railway engine, a lighthouse and the Head of Queen Victoria. Inscriptons are on two faces: "VICT REG/1837-1887/YARMOUTH/11 MILES/NORWICH/11 MILES" and "UPTON &/S WALSHAM/YARMOUTH/NEW ROAD/8 MILES".

Source [1] states that during World War Two the monument was re-erected on top of a large pillbox at this point. Presumably this was removed at the end of the War and the monument replaced.
