Civil Parish HOLKHAM, NORTH NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

1974.
Remains of square enclosure to north and south of A149, centred on junction of A149 and an estate road.
About 50m square; ploughed out bank to north of A149, to south of A149 east of estate road remains of low bank in woods, and to west of estate road no trace.
From a note by C.J.S. Green (NAU).

North bank noticed by E. Rose (NAU) when area done, but assumed to be just one of the many marsh banks about this area. What is to say the bank to southeast is connected with it? How can it be called a square enclosure if only two sides remain?
E. Rose (NAU).

2000. Field Observation and Desk-based Assessment.
Site visited and considered as part of archaeological assessment of Holkham Estate.
Arable. No surface indications.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 28 April 2015.

Air photo evidence casts further doubt on its validity.
To northeast a ploughed out quarry (the north bank?) and no sign of south bank in cleared woodland to the south.
A. Miller (Suffolk CC NMP)
D. Gurney (NLA), 13 February 2002.
