Map

Note left by C. J. S. Green (NAU) records cropmarks of complex of enclosures and linear features to east of Pye Road.
Sketch plan in file.
Compiled by A. Gregory (NAU), 20 November 1978.

Meridian aerial photograph at Norfolk County Highways Department.
Note however that when E. Rose (NAU), examined these prints these marks were not seen (though marks of Pye Road, later road and ring ditch to south were visible).
However Green's record was not then known and E. Rose (NAU), might have missed these. Marks are on site of Dogkennel Plantation and may only have been caused by wood ditches, etc.

1993. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed golf course.
Two trenches excavated on site of possible cropmark features.
This work confirmed that these marks were indeed due to the wood formerly on site; only late post-medieval finds recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2022.141).
E. Rose (NLA), 20 October 1993. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 5 December 2022.

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of former post medieval park and woodland boundaries are visible on aerial photographs (S2-S3), but were not mapped. The extent of the features was however extended to the east of those excavated (S1) and the site is now centred on TG 2273 0173.
S. Horlock (NMP), 23 March 2009.
