Summary

Fieldwalking in advance of the development of the Norwich Southern Bypass recovered a prehistoric flint core, scrapers and flakes; a Roman brooch, Roman pottery, and a possible tessera; medieval pottery and post medieval clay smoking pipes.

March 1977. Fieldwalking.
A fieldwalking survey was undertaken by members of the Norfolk Archaeological Research Group (NARG) along the proposed route of the Norwich Southern Bypass.
This field, identified as number 27, was ploughed and cropped at the time of the survey.
The following objects were recovered:
13 sherds pottery including Roman, medieval, and post-medieval wares.
1 Roman tegula fragment
6 post-medieval clay pipe fragments
2 undated glass fragments

February-March 1987. Fieldwalking.

Objects recovered from the field included:
1 prehistoric flint core, 17 scrapers, 62 flakes, 2 potboilers (discarded)
3 sherds Roman greyware, 1 possible tessera
19 medieval pottery sherds
Undated, likely non-archaeological material: 2 undated pottery sherds, 2 brick and tile fragments, 1 carved stone fragment, 1 coin, 10 fragments iron slag
