Summary

Fieldwalking and metal detecting on the line of Norwich Southern Bypass recovered prehistoric worked flints, Roman coins, an Early Saxon brooch, a Late Saxon paffrath (ladle) handle, a medieval seal and medieval coins. Medieval and post medieval fragments of pottery were also found.

31 March 1976. Fieldwalking on bypass route.
Stony loam barley field.
Paffrath (Late Saxon ladle) handle, post medieval sherds and two flints (Context 1). Three medieval sherds, eleven post medieval and four flints (Context 2) and single flint tool (Context 3).
Context 1 is at north centre of field, Context 2 in centre east of wood and Context 3 at northeast corner.
