Summary

NCM hold a coloured drawing of a Bronze Age looped palstave, which appears to have been cut from a manuscript, and it is thought that this represents an object recovered from Snettisham. Details of the date and location of its recovery are unclear.

Coloured drawing of looped palstave with shield decoration and medial rib, (S1), marked by R. R. Clarke (NCM) 'Found in making a plantation at Snettisham present location unknown; BA Index from this drawing; mid 19th century or earlier'.
The drawing has obviously been cut from a manuscript, no legible traces of which survive. However it is identical (compare corrosion patches etc) with the plate in Woodward Correspondence 1832 (S2) where it is referred to only as 'brass celt in my possession'.

Despite similarities to drawing of axe from Downham Fen at page 98 there are more differences, and it is probably not the same.
The information about the plantation at Snettisham sounds more like that given by Armstrong about the Snettisham I hoard (see NHER 1504) which are socketed axes.

This palstave does not fit any of the descriptions on other cards - it is unlikely from the description that it is the same as NHER 1506, though not all the references can be traced.
A possibility is that the wrong information has got on to the drawing.
