Map

Rectangular fishpond.
?medieval fishpond.
R.R. Clarke (NCM) on (S1).

This card was confused with site NHER 1457 on a card made 20 August 1981.
However the position below the supposed mill suggests rather a mill leat.
E. Rose (NAU) 30 November 1981.

March 2002. Norfolk NMP.
Earthworks visible of a sub-rectangular sunken feature at TF 6764 3846, on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S2). It measures approximately 18m by 6.5m. This has been interpreted as a medieval fishpond or possibly as being part of a mill site further down stream (NHER 1457). It seems likely that this feature is part of a much larger site (NHER 27731), also visible as earthworks on the 1946 RAF photographs. It is also possible that the site relates to a monastic cell (NHER 1444) located in the northwest corner of Heacham Park, or possibly a manorial site.
S. Massey (NMP), 20 March 2002.
