Full Description
Pre 1961. Stray Find.
The Parrott Collection includes a number of prehistoric objects that are recorded as having been found in the "field between chalk pit and coursing group", which is believed to be a reference to this location. The Parrott Collection was previously on loan to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1961.142) but is now housed at Weeting Primary School.
Finds with this provenance include 1 Mesolithic flint microlith (Coll. No. 738a) that is described in (S1). A number of later prehistoric worked flints are listed in (S2), including:
5 Early Neolithic leaf-shaped arrowheads and 3 laurel leaves.
8 Neolithic (or later?) transverse petit tranchet derivative arrowheads, 1 oblique petit tranchet derivative arrowhead, 3 triangular arrowheads, 3 long-pointed awls, 1 long-pointed piercer and 1 quadrangular flaked discoidal knife.
4 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowheads and 4 plano-convex knives.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 September 2014.
