Summary

The stone head of a female sculpture was found on the bed of the River Ouse in 1979. The head is in the classical style, and may date to the 18th century. The head was stolen from the garden of the High School in King's Lynn in 1978 and dumped in the river.

February 1979. Found in mud in bed of Ouse.
Stone female head, 18th century? In classical style. Curled hair tied at nape of neck, head turned slightly to right and upwards, drapery round left shoulder, right shoulder missing. Broken across at neck. Not part of statue. Found in two pieces. Oolitic limestone.
Seen at KLM 12 February 1979.

It was later discovered that the head had been in the garden of the High School, King Street, until stolen in 1978 when it was presumably dumped in the river.
