Summary

Fieldwalking in 1979 and metal detecting in 1995 recovered Neolithic flint flakes, scrapers and blades, a medieval coin and a medieval jug handle. Cropmarks of a ring ditch previously recorded as part of this site are now recorded separately as NHER 50702.

March 1979. Fieldwalking.
The north half of Ordnance Survey field 39 was walked (remainder under crop).
Flints and a medieval jug handle were found.
Compiled by R. Rickett (NAU).

Finds donated to Norwich Castle Museum (now NWHCM : 1994.192.AS8364).

In 1982 these finds were examined by NAU staff C. Dallas, R. Rickett and E. Rose and identified as:
4 long flint blades, 3 scrapers, and 2 possible scrapers, all definite Neolithic types.
3 undatable prehistoric flint flakes, one lump of slag, and . The jug handle is a grey fabric with light a 1 medieval pottery sherd (13th- to 14th-century Grimston ware jug handle with green glaze)
1 undatable lump of slag.

The flints were reexamined by F. Healy (NAU) in 1985 and identified as 6 flakes, 3 blades, and 3 scrapers (including one on blade).

1987. Excavation along the western edge of this field.

December 1995/January 1996. Metal detecting.
One medieval coin was found while metal detecting.
