NHER 14728 (Find Spot record) - Multi-period prehistoric worked flints and Roman pottery

Various discoveries in old O.S field 38 (Curtis Field 34):

1956. Stray Find.
Two worked flints recovered by F. Curtis.
Found at TL 6885 8891:
1 Mesolithic microlith (Coll. No. 23). Obliquely blunted point. Photographed by NCM.

Found at TL 6893 8896:
1 Mesolithic microlith. Truncated piece (Coll. No. 30).

1951-1956. Stray Find.
F. Curtis' catalogue records a number of additional objects that he found in this field, although dates of discovery and grid references are not noted. The worked flints listed by F. Healy (NAU) in (S1) and (S3) are as follows:
2 Neolithic leaf arrowheads.
1 Neolithic triangular arrowhead.
2 'harpoon barbs' - probably Neolithic transverse petit tranchet derivative arrowheads.
1 'slug knife' - probably a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age plano-convex knife.
2 scrapers.
2 borers (one on flake from ground implement).
1 'saw'.
6 other implements.

F. Healy also identified a number of Curtis' finds from this field in the King's Lynn Museum including:
1 flake, 9 scrapers (probably includes the two listed above) and 1 awl (possibly one of the 'borers' listed above).

1963. Fieldwalking.
Scatter of Roman sherds found in south-west corner of field identified by F. Curtis (Context 2). The scatter extends beyond this field and is recorded as NHER 5415.

25 October 1984. Fenland Project fieldwalking.
Good conditions; young winter cereal, well weathered soil.
Context 1, general scatter over field. Worked flints and odd fragments undated pottery.
Pottery identified as Roman greyware.
