Map

No mapped location recorded.

Unprovenanced finds from Hockwold Heath, which is on the upland north-east of Hockwold cum Wilton village (centred at TL 7500 8900).

1952-1964. Stray Find.
Worked flints recovered by F. Curtis:
5 "harpoon barbs" [?petit tranchet derivative arrowheads].
2 "slug knives" [plano-convex knives].
1 "lancehead/dagger".
1 hollow-based arrowhead.
3 barbed and tanged arrowheads.
1 axe.
2 adzes.
1 pick.
Also 1 stone axe ("indented").
Information from (S1). These finds are listed in the Curtis Catalogue (S2) (which includes a sketch of the hollow-based arrowhead) but were not seen by Healy when she examined this collection. These finds are also listed in (S3), although it should be noted that this list also includes a number of finds recorded as being from Brick Kiln Farm (which lies on Hockwold Heath) that are now recorded under NHER 24952.

This above finds almost certainly include two Mesolithic core tools that were identified in the Curtis Collection by R. Jacobi (a pick and a tranchet adze). These are listed in Jacobi's records (S4) as being from Brick Kiln Farm, but no core tools are amongst the unprovenanced Brick Kiln Farm finds listed in (S1). These are recorded under NHER 24952.
