Full Description
St Catherine's Chapel.
According to (S1) St Catherine's chapel is mentioned in 1381 (5th year of Richard II) and again in 1497; demolished pre-1560 (3rd year of Elizabeth I).
Exact site not known - see (S1).
E. Rose (NAU), 15 May 1979.
(S2) points out that Bradfer-Lawrence's transcription of the 1486 Gaywood Dragge refers to the chapel as standing outside the east gates, to the north of what is now Gaywood Road, 'with a close and a moat' adjacent to a garden belonging to St John's Hospital. This would place it somewhere in the area of TF 623 204.
E. Rose (NLA), 26 September 2003.
