Full Description
1935-1952. Stray Find.
Found by R. F. Parrott in "fields between Holt and Line" (old O. S Field 279):
2 prehistoric flint cores, 1 core fragment, 30 scrapers, 2 'serrated pieces', 1 fabricator and 3 miscellaneous retouched pieces.
8 Mesolithic flint microliths.
2 Mesolithic/Neolithic petit tranchet flint arrowheads.
4 Early Neolithic leaf-shaped flint arrowheads.
6 Neolithic (or later) chisel arrowheads, 2 oblique arrowheads, 1 fragmentary chisel/oblique arrowhead, 2 scale-flaked knives, 2 flaked axeheads (1 fragmentary) and 1 flake from ground implement.
Seen by F. Healy (NAU) and listed in (S1). The Neolithic finds from this site had previously been listed in (S2) although there are some discrepancies (finds recorded as 3 leaf arrowheads, 1 laurel leaf, 9 petit tranchet derivative arrowheads, 1 piercer and 6 serrated flakes). The Mesolithic microliths are described in (S3). The finds themselves are part of the Parrott Collection which was catalogued and recorded when on loan to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1961.142) and is now housed at Weeting Primary School.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 10 September 2014.
