Full Description
Site of windmill marked on (S1).
E. Rose (NAU), 31 May 1979.
New post mill replaced that on Faden's map in 1842. Last used in 1876.
Information from Harry Apling.
E. Rose (NAU), 22 March 1982.
(S2) suggests that the earliest mill on this site was working in the 1700s but that by 1822 it had been replaced by a post mill that had been built beside it. After the earlier mill ceased working and the buck was dismantled a horse mill was operated inside the roundhouse. (S3) records that the later mill was working beside the roundhouse of the earlier mill by 1822, and that it too was set on a roundhouse which was at least two and possibly three storeys high. The patent sails, were turned to wind with a fantail and powered 2 pairs of 4 ft 4 ins French burr stones and a jumper. This later mill was dismantled around 1926.
See (S2) and (S3) for further information.
A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 1 May 2019.
