Summary

A mid 17th century brick and clunch house, substantially altered and rebuilt in the 19th century. The building is shown on Faden's map of 1797, when it was a public house. The wooden village stocks dating to the 17th or 18th centuries formerly stood in front of this building. They are now located adjacent to the small green at the junction of Well Street and Chequers Street (see NHER 51643).

Set in front in front of Hare P.H. Six holes for feet, no hand bars, two uprights, original iron hasps.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Public house. Mid-17th century. Stucco rendered face, brick and clunch rear, red pantiled roof. Two storeys with attics, four windows. Lobby entrance plan at south...One axial and one north end boarded door...One axial brick stack. Clunch rendered and plastered south gable, brick coped parapet. To north early 19th-century, two-storey, two-window addition. Stocks (q.v.) are attached."
