Summary

During fieldwalking and metal detecting in advance of the construction of the Aylsham bypass prehistoric, Roman, medieval and post medieval pottery was recovered. A pit containing Bronze Age pottery was excavated. Later fieldwalking found iron slag and medieval pot and during construction work more evidence for ironworking, two connected pits, and other features were recorded. These may be indicative of an undated ironworking site and a nearby pottery kiln.
