Summary

An early 18th century red brick house that was converted into a warehouse when a mill was constructed on the site in 1749. The mill and warehouse were converted back into housing in the late 20th century. Inside the buildings is a wall of much older date that may follow the course of a 16th century property boundary. In 1977 over twenty metres of tunnels and vaulted cellars were found underneath the buildings.

Map

Early 18th century red brick mustard mill (converted to house).
Information from (S1).

February 1977.
Over 24m (80ft) of tunnels (and probably much more) discovered extending under buildings. Of large size; (S2) suggests contemporary storage vaults.
E. Rose (NAU), 7 August 1979

(S1) dates the original house to about 1735; mustard mill built and house converted to warehouse in 1749; reconverted to housing in 1968.

December 2003. Part Survey.
The date of the most recent conversion is 1975, not 1968. The exteriors of the buildings fit their respective dates, that of the mill is quite impressive. Inside, a spine wall is much older and follows a 16th century property boundary. It is possible that this continues into neighbouring No. 3 (NHER 40055).
(S3) gives the date of the mill as 1752 and dates the conversion to housing to the 1980s.
See report (S4) in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 20 December 2003. Amended A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 15 May 2019.

February 2011. Planning Application.
An application to sub-divide the existing house into two dwellings.
See (S5).
Z. Dack (HES), 12 April 2011.
