Summary

A row of wooden posts was seen at low tide in 1979 and 1996, on the site of Cromer Harbour, thought to have been built during the reign of Elizabeth I.

1979.
Just east of pier at low water mark, low tide.
Double row of wooden post stumps seen, following coastline then turning 45 degrees east.
Said locally to be the old harbour.
'On 14 July 1582 Queen Elizabeth I granted letters patent to the people of Cromer to export 20,000 quarters of wheat, barley and malt for the upkeep and towards the building of the harbour at Cromer'.
Said to have been several times rebuilt before final destruction.

'They are attempting to make a small pier or harbour but tis feared will prove fruitless'.
