2009 Report of telephone conversation.
[1] reported that his father recalled that in 1902-4 when informant's father was aged around 8 -10 and his grandfather worked as a shepherd on the Wheatacre Hall estate, a flock of sheep with liverfluke were slaughtered and a trench was excavated behind an old barn in which to bury the sheep. His father recalled artefacts matching those described above were discovered but their significance was not realised at the time. The informant's father and a friend played quoits with what may have been torcs and which he believed to be made of brass. The finds also included three long iron objects, which were assumed to be hay knives but which may have been iron swords. The informant's father believes the finds were all discarded into a hedge on the edge of the field.
A. Yardy (HES), 11 June 2013.
