Civil Parish ACLE, BROADLAND, NORFOLK

Map

Early 18th century.
'At the entrance to the town', Hermitage See (S1) (NRO Rye Ms 17).
There is a Hermitage Inn, apparently 19th century, at 4080 1075.
E. Rose (NAU) 10 August 1979.

This is not a confusion with Wey bridge priory as (S1) mentions this separately.
(S2) marks this building as Hermitage. On this map the Hermitage Inn is called the Ship.

A brick cottage now occupies this site; it could post-date the 1836 map.
E. Rose (NAU) 2 April 1980

Note that the marshes to north are still called the Hermitage Marshes.
E. Rose, (NLA) 17 January 2001.
