Summary

A number of finds were found on the surface of this field between 1977 and 1979, including Roman and medieval pottery sherds; Roman coins and brooches and post-medieval carboy stoppers. Metal-detecting in 2013 and 2021 recovered Roman and medieval coins; post-medieval jettons and a number of other metal objects, including a Late Bronze Age copper alloy awl; Roman brooches and a finger ring; medieval dress accessories and a post-medieval coin weight.

1977-9. Corner of Chalk Lane and Railway. On field surface.
Roman sherds of mortaria, colour coated ware, two sherds decorated Samian.
Plain bronze bracelet, various bronze brooches etc including bow type with spring.
Various coins Vespasian to 4th century.
Medieval sherds.
Seven knobs of tile clay (salt making?)

Note however that site is at 50 feet OD, which makes saltworking unlikely.
