Full Description
Site of wind mill.
Marked on (S1).
E. Rose (NAU) 21 August 1979.
Post mill.
Last used as mill 1888 though a bakery in 1890.
E. Rose (NAU) 29 January 1982.
Accurate grid reference from (S2), marked as wind mill with 'wind pump' beside it, perhaps only a small metal pump.
E. Rose, (NAU) 29 March 1984.
31 May 2000. Watching Brief.
Observation of foundation trenches for extensions. Contexts 2-19.
The groundworks exposed a layer of apparently deliberately deposited compacted chalky material which was cut in one place by a probable linear feature. A layer of chalk, flint and brick seen at a higher level was probably a recent levelling deposit.
See report (S3) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S4).
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2024.220).
D. Gurney, 18 August 2000. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 12 March 2015 and 20 October 2024.
