Summary

This is the site of a post medieval windmill, or post mill, marked on Faden's map of 1797, and which was in use until the late 19th century. In 2000 the Norfolk Archaeological Unit undertook a watching brief on the site, and a ditch and chalk deposit of unknown date were revealed.

Post mill.
Last used as mill 1888 though a bakery in 1890.
E. Rose (NAU) 29 January 1982.

Accurate grid reference from (S2), marked as wind mill with 'wind pump' beside it, perhaps only a small metal pump.

31 May 2000. Watching Brief.
Observation of foundation trenches for extensions. Contexts 2-19.
The groundworks exposed a layer of apparently deliberately deposited compacted chalky material which was cut in one place by a probable linear feature. A layer of chalk, flint and brick seen at a higher level was probably a recent levelling deposit.
