NHER 15171 (Building record) - Anchorage House, Broomsthorpe Road

[1] states there is 'documentary evidence in the deeds' that the name of the property was changed by a former owner who had been a sea captain.
But (S1) calls the house the Lower Anchorage and cites it as a site of an anchorite's chapel.

(S1) claims that two houses in the village are on the sites of the Anchoress's Chapel and St Radegunda's Chapel. However, (S2) states that both these chapels were inside the precinct of St Mary's Priory, Coxford, NHER 3632.
Anchorage House dates from about 1800 and is built of plum coloured brick with a pantiled roof.
2 storeys, 3 bays, double pile on plan.
Sash windows under flat rubbed brick arches.
Central columnar wooden porch with 2 columns and 2 antae, an entablature and a flat roof.
2 end strip pilasters and centre bay brought forward.
Moulded wooden eaves cornice, broken forward over pilasters and centre bay.

The name of Anchorage House is more likely to reflect the Romanticism of the early 19th century, rather than the site of a anchorite's cell.
