Summary

A one and two storey flint and brick former workhouse with a pantiled roof, set out in an E-shaped plan.

Erected 1779 to replace one in town, closed 1835.
On former common, in what (S1) calls Workhouse Lane.

Flint, part rendered, red brick dressings, pantiled.
One and two storeys, E-plan. Windows mainly modern.

The building superceded one of 1599 that was turned into cottages when this one was built; but whether this was adjacent or not is not known.

October 2008.
Proposal to consruct an extension to the east side of the building, in the same location as on the 1928 Ordnance Survey map. The modern windows will be replaced with traditional flush casements, the external walls and roof will be stailised and the interior will be repaired and modified.
