Full Description
1979. Documentary Evidence.
A wind mill is marked at this location on Faden's 1797 map of Norfolk (S2).
Information from HER Record Card (S1).
E. Rose (NAU), 10 September 1979. Amended H. Hamilton (HES), 23 February 2026.
March 1982. Documentary Evidence.
This was an open trestle post mill replaced in 1818 by a post mill on a round house. Last used 1916. Information provided by local researcher [1].
E. Rose (NAU), 23 March 1982.
February 2026. HER Enhancement: Forestry Commission Project K.
The First Edition Ordnance Survey Map (S4) and the Second Edition (S5) depict a round structure to the east of the extant building which is most likely the post mill known to have been constructed in 1818 and last used in 1916. The mapped location of this record has been amended to reflect this [2].
This round structure is not depicted on the Sheringham Tithe map (S3). It therefore remains uncertain as to where the earlier trestle post mill may have been located.
H. Hamilton (HES), 23 February 2026.
