Full Description
Cropmark visible on Ordnance Survey air photograph.
Cropmark of moated enclosure in parched pasture land.
Size approximately 60m north to south x 54m east to west.
No visible entrance/causeway.
D. Edwards (NAU) 7 August 1979.
Visited 1978.
There are no signs of a causeway or internal buildings but two circular depressions co-joining the moat are evident on the
south of the island.
Arms of moat average 11m circle, 1m deep (max).
The southeast angle of the ditch fades into marshy ground adjacent to a spring.
The central island is raised about 0.4m above the surrounding marsh, but no occupation debris was found on the surface. A later drain about 1.8m deep with no resultant adjacent spoil bank cuts the work east to west but no occupation layer was visible.
The two sub-circular depressions, one now waterfilled, may be contemporary.
R. J. Rickett (NAU) 23 April 1990.
