Summary

An area of charcoal was observed in a pipe trench in 1979. The feature may be the remains of a hearth of unknown date.

4 October 1979. Directly north of corner of wood by Newman's Farm.
Charcoal hearth?; revealed in gas pipe trench.
Bowl shaped, seen in clay subsoil in south side trench. 33cm deep to base of bowl (after topsoil removed), 1.06m across. At least 52cm wide (width of trench) as it appears in north side also, but here as a flat spread.
