Summary

Metal detecting in 1979 recovered a lead papal seal of Martin IV, who was pope between 23 November 1281 and 28 March 1285.

October 1979. South side River Ingol by footpath. Found with metal detector 6 inches (15cm) deep.
Lead papal seal of Martin IV (23 November 1281-28 March 1285). Obverse reads: MAR TINVS PP IIII.
Reverse: SP PP above lions head left and human head right, cross between.
Seen by KLM.
Edges of seal are cut away, remainder is 3.5cm diameter.
