Full Description
North of Well Hill.
Mound marked as Robyn Hoodes Butte (common barrow name elsewhere in Britain, but not otherwise known in Norfolk except for NHER 15523 nearby - see also Robin Hoods Garden (NHER 8712) at Ashill).
(S1).
A. Lawson (NAU) 11 December 1979.
However these may be clappers (breeding mounds for female rabbits).
A. Lawson (NAU).
Probably the same as a barrow marked on (S2), though there the grid reference would seem to be nearer TL 7708 9255; but it is hard to be exact.
K. Sussams (SAU), 6 December 1995.
October 2003.
Mound revealed following clearance works by Forest Enterprise in compartment Mundford 2629.
Circular, around 25m across and up to 1m high.
NGR established by GPS.
D. Gurney (NLA), 3 October 2003.
January 2020. Breckland National Mapping Programme.
No mound was identified at this location on the consulted sources. It is possible that the possible Bronze Age barrow (or medieval to post medieval pillow or clapper mound) described above is the same as the mound recorded by the survey as NHER 63618, more than 80m to the northeast.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 16th January 2020.
