Summary

Following the removal of topsoil for the Harleston Bypass a large number of objects were recovered, including a number of flint implements, a fragment of a medieval cauldron, medieval pottery sherds and a number of post medieval objects.

March 1979. Northwest corner of OS field 650, northeast corner of OS 603 and whole of OS 410. Scattered over ploughed surface.
Struck flint flakes, sherds of medieval pottery and of Late medieval/Trans and iron cauldron fragment. Medieval sherds occur only in two fields south of east to west road. From NARG fieldwork (Harleston bypass), Context 1. [1]

29 September 1980. Context 2 [2], after topsoil removed.
One post medieval oxydised bodysherd, internal and external dark brown glaze. No other finds or features.

September 1980. Further finds after surface soil removed for bypass, identified as Context 3.
Nine Medieval coarse ware, eleven post medieval sherds (plus modern brick, tile, glass not retained). 'From both fields 584 and 603'.
Thirteen worked flints including three scrapers.
Fourteen medieval coarsewares, one medieval glazed.
One bodysherd with one finger? circular depression and part of another date?
Two oxidised, probably post medieval (from field 584).
Six medieval coarseware, one medieval glazed.
Three post medieval (plus several recent brick and glass not retained). 'Field 584 near lane junction'.
Copper alloy sheet; snuff box. Button.
Lead candlestick? in form of human head surmounted by hat of four tree or fern like protruberences.
