Summary

No.1 is a double jettied 15th century house with original shop fronts and the remains of a crownpost roofed first floor hall to the rear. Wallpaintings dating to about 1800 have been found in the attic. This building may have originally extended into the present area of Nos. 2 and 3. These 16th century jettied houses are said to contain reused medieval stonework.

Listing Description Excerpt:
"Late C15 with later alterations. Stuccoed timber-frame. Black-glazed pantile roof with gabled ends; 3 storeys. Second floor 2 sashes without glazing bars. First floor late C19 oriel on brackets. Ground floor early/mid C19 shop with moulded architrave, narrow fascia and cornice."

2 Common Place.

November 1951. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"C16 with later alterations. Timber-frame; 3 storeys. Ground floor stuccoed. First floor jettied with vertical close-set studding. Second floor added, jettied and stuccoed. Black-glazed pantile roof with gable ends and dentilled eaves. Ground floor 2 Victorian shop windows with splayed bays with cornices and central door."

3 Common Place.

November 1951. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"C16; 2 storeys. Timber frame, painted brick and flint-faced ground floor, jettied 1st floor with close-set studding. Steep gable-ended roof with black-glazed pantiles. Two windows to each floor, sashes with glazing bars. Central early C19 moulded doorcase architrave with cornice and panelled reveals, and panelled door."

29 April 1988. Visit. 1 to 3 Common Place.
No.1 is double jettied 15th century house with original shop fronts revealed 1988, remains of crownpost roofed first floor hall at rear. Wallpaintings about 1800 in attic. May have originally extended into present area of Nos. 2 and 3, 16th century jettied houses said to contain reused medieval stonework.

South façade blocks of Nos. 1 to 3 were originally one house with crownpost roof, the attic floor being inserted later into this. Date relationship of north wing of No. 1 to this block has not been clarified.
